All participants (youth and adults) need to plan their accommodation for both Phase One (Expeditions) and Phase Two (on-site at Brookfield).
The default option is to bring a single-person tent, however there are some sharing options that require approval.
Phase One – Expeditions
Accommodation details will be provided by your Expedition Leader.
Some expeditions may include bunkrooms or other provided accommodation.
Shared bunkrooms must be single-gender where possible and have at least three occupants.
If tents are required, the Phase Two tent requirements apply (see below).
TENT REQUIREMENTS
Tents will be required at Brookfield for Phase Two.
The default option is to bring a single-person tent (maximum footprint 3m x 3m / 9sqm), for one person only – no sharing allowed. However, there are some sharing options available for larger tents, which require approval.
Shared Tent Option – Venture Approval Required
You may request to share a larger tent with your allocated Venture Unit – the unit you are assigned to for your expedition. This is not your home Scout Group Venturer Unit.
Your tent will need to meet the following criteria:
A minimum of three people are accommodated.
All occupants are under 18 and of the same gender, as
indicated on your registration form.
Tent fits the footprint allowance (see below).
Tent must be available for both phases (approved by
Expedition Leader).No large Continental canvas tents allowed due to space limitations.
Tent Footprint Allowances:
(Tents can be no wider than 3m)
1 person: 3m long x 3m wide = 9 sqm
3 people: 4m long x 3m wide = 12 sqm
4 people: 6m long x 3m wide = 18 sqm
5 people: 7m long x 3m wide = 21 sqm
Unit Leaders will be compiling tenting information for their entire Unit. Unless every member of your Unit has their own single-person tent, your Unit’s tenting plan will need to be submitted by your Unit Leader for approval.
For site planning, please keep your tent within a max of 3m wide. Being a little longer is fine provided you can fit all your Unit/Expedition tents inside the allocated camping area.
Larger sizes will require approval from the Facilities Manager.
UNIT LEADERS
Unit Leaders will camp with their assigned Unit
The default accommodation is tents (with the same size limits as youth) and there is no need to request to share with other Unit Leaders.
Unit Leaders must never share accommodation with youth.
Staff Accommodation
Staff camp will be situated in a designated area at Brookfield.
Default option is tents (same size restrictions as participants) without the need to request to share with other staff. A very limited number of bunk beds may be available for Staff.
These will be allocated in advance by the Facilities Manager only.
Brookfield Facilities – Phase Two Site
Venture’26 is at Brookfield Outdoor Education Centre, Moores Valley, Wainuiomata.
The site has limited camping space, so size limits are strictly enforced.
Facilities include:
Toilets and showers near your camping area
Central dining and entertainment areas
Rover Café for late-night hangouts
Washing machines
Medical & Special Requirements
If you require electricity for medical reasons, add this to your medical needs on your registration form. (Facilities Manager approval required).
Security
Participants are responsible for securing personal valuables.
Venture can provide a lock-up for passports and other essential items if required.
Clean-up Responsibilities
Clean your camping area and remove all tents at pack-down.
All rubbish must be disposed of in provided bins.
Be a Good Neighbour
Keep tents within allocated space so others can move safely.
Keep noise to a minimum in camping areas; use the Rover Café for late-night chats.
COMMON TENT QUESTIONS
How do I get my tent to Brookfield if I don’t need it for Phase One?
Bring it on Launch Day and Venture will transport it to Brookfield ready for your arrival after the expedition.
Can two people share a tent?
No – either one person per tent or a shared tent with 3+ approved people.
Can someone from another Unit share with us?
No – you must camp as your Unit within your Expedition campsite.
